OUR HISTORY
Tri-County
Republican Women of Senatorial District 17 and Congressional District
22 in Texas was established on November 16, 1993. The club's name was
chosen because three counties, Brazoria, Galveston, and Houston, are
where the members reside.
The first
meeting was held in a small Mexican restaurant with the depiction of
the "true Texas" theme. There were eleven charter members
that day who studied the procedure for organizing the club and the purpose
of the Texas Federation of Republican Women's standing rules.
The first
year saw involvement in elections, fundraising, and commitments to local
charities including the Christian Helping Hand, the Women's Center of
Brazoria County, The Adult Reading Center, and bolunteering at local
libraries. This involvement continues today. During the first two years,
we sent to three delegates to TFRW and the state convention.
In 1995,
our organization received The National Federation of Republican Women's
Gold Award. We also attended the Greater Houston Council of Federated
Republican Women's luncheon where First Lady (then the governor's wife)
Laura Bush purchase the Tri-County Republican Women's centerpeice for
her twin daughters.
In 1996,
our Past President was honored at the State Convention's "Tribute
to Women". We also volunteered to do office work for candidates
seeking election.

We
believe THAT
the
right of the individual to achieve the best that is within him, as long
as he respects the rights of others, is the source of our Nation's strength.
government
exists to protect the freedom of opportunity in which each individual's
creative ability can flourish.
the government
activities should be limited to those things which people cannot do at
all, or cannot do so well for themselves.
the most
effective government is governement closest to the people.
those who
cannot provide for themselved should be assisted by goth government and
society, but that every effort should be made to help them become self-supporting,
productive citizens with pride in their independence

In 1997,
our charity work continued with contributions to organizations like
Cancer Awareness, and the Barbara Bush Literacy Program. A "fundraising"
tradition was started this year - the "High Tea" with Mrs.
Nolan Ryan as the Keynote Speaker. On the day the George Bush Libreary
in Bryan, Texas was dedicated, members assisted dignitaries who were
traveling to and from Houston hotels. One of our own was awarded "One
of the Ten Most Outstanding Women" at the TFRW convention in Lubbock.
The club received the John Tower Award of Excellence by TFRW and the
Outstanding Achievement Diamond award by NFRW. That year, our President
stated that "...our members became more aware of the political
process in the Republican Party and ..."
In 1998,
the charity work grew to include a Hospice at the Houston Medical Center,
a United Way program for tutors teaching adults to speak English, and
a coordinated program with the HOST project to mentor children at a
local school. TCRW also began a "fundraising" tradition -
taking bus trips to local venues like a tour of the George Bush Library,
and observing the bluebonnets in Austin. Because of our continued growth
and accomplishments the President of TCRW said, "...the strength
of the Tri-County Republican Women lies in the willingness of all its
members to work together for the success of the Republican Party."
In 1999,
a new goal was set to become better informed about the Republican Women's
organization, its political functions and impact. An Executive Committee
was formed to support this goal. Fundraising and Community Service continued
- The Hospice, Literacy, Cancer, and High Tea. Again, our organization
was honored. This time by the Greater Houston Council of Federated Republican
Women and the "Top 10 in Texas". The President remarked, "The
membership of a club is the most important asset. To have a working
and happy membershiip showing that Republican Women care is the measure
of a good club. We met the challenges and together we made it happen!"
Our history
is rich and our organization has received many honors and supported
many causes. Please continue to read our history.

equal rights,
equal justice and equal opportunity belong to all, regardless of race,
creed, age, sex or national origin.
the preservation of our Nation and the security of our citizens depend
upon the Constituion, the laws, and the courts, and that respect for them
is the responsibility of every individual.
government
is accountable for maintaining sound money and responsible economy. Individual
rights, liberties and properties are continually eroded when citizens
are oppressed by ecessive taxation, inflation, goverment wase and over-regulation.
government
is responsible for national defense and that only a strong America can
remain a free America.
it is absolutely
essential to maintain a strong national defense posturesin order that
we may at all times negotiate from a position of strength, not weakness,
in our continuing efforts toward world peace and friendship.
these concepts
are the foundation of our national strength and that the REPUBLICAN
PARTY, which is comitted to their preservation, is the party of today
and the PARTY FOR THE FUTURE.
