ELECTED OFFICIAL'S VOICE
Pete Olson - 7/29/11 -"This evening, I cast a vote in support of America and for the full faith and credit of the United States. The Budget Control Act does not include any tax increases and provides dollar-for-dollar cuts in spending to increase the debt ceiling. Cut, Cap and Balance is my preference to rein in the runaway spending that is mortgaging our children's future, but there is no scenario under which we can pass that bill.

"In the meantime, we face a potential crippling economic situation that requires action now, not in 2012. This was not a perfect bill, but it does begin to tackle our spiraling deficit and ensures that we don‘t default on our debts.  I firmly believe that passing the the Budget Control Act is the best option to ensure this agreement is reached under our terms - not President Obama's."

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hope you had a great summer.  I did.  It is time to return to meeting.  Carole Wells has a great program planned for August 9th with Pete Olson being our speaker.  I do hope you will come and bring several friends.  Be sure and call Laura or myself and let us know how many.  My phone number is 281-485-1509.

Several things for you to remember.  First, bring your envelope with your financial donation to our Silver Bell Auction if you plan to donate.  Second, bring towels, baby crib sheets as well as queen or regular sheets, wash cloths, bath mats all in white for the Fisher House.  Thirdly, bring your items for Hospice and Barbara Jacobson will deliver them.  Lastly bring items for Military Moms and Wives.  I know that is a lot to remember but we are a giving group of ladies.  We will be able to help these people.

Gayle Chapman and her committee are busy planning Silver Bells Tea.  The next meeting is August 17th at Gayle’s house.  Please call her and reserve a place.  All are welcome.

Concerning Silver Bells, please be thinking about who you can invite to attend on November 6th.  Remember this is our only money raising event.  Tickets and flyers will be available at our meeting.

TFRW State Convention is in Ft. Worth November 17-20.  NFRW Convention is in Kansas City September 29 – October 2.  If you would like to attend, please contact me.

I am looking forward to seeing each of you on August 9th.

Tea Party protestors urged Republicans to dig in their heels in budget talks with Democrats even in the face of government shut-down.  GOP leaders said no deals have been made.  Negotiators continued to work toward a compromise that would fund the government for the rest of 2011 and avoid a cutoff of federal services before an April 8 deadline.  Well, here we are after our summer break and a deal is still being negotiated.  Due to an August 2 deadline, Congress agreed to raise the debt ceiling temporarily to keep us from default, cut $1 trillion over 10 years in spending, appoint a committee for further reductions, "triggers" for additional tax cuts if the committee fails to provide additional cuts that can be agreed to; and ensures a vote on a balanced budget amendment.
